This product was released at the same time as the Quasar bar, and there can be no doubt that they are intended as a competitive pair to Snickers and Milky Way, respectively.
Strangely, though, the TJ's offerings are not nearly as similar to each other as their more famous rivals. Snickers is just a Milky Way with peanuts added. But the Boffo and Quasar are really quite different. The Boffo uses milk chocolate instead of dark chocolate. And the nougat portions are not at all the same. In the Boffo, the nougat is light and fluffy, full of air--it's almost like not being there. But in the Quasar, it's dense and chewy. I suspect they come from different suppliers.
Compared to Snickers, the Boffo is unforgivably lacking in both caramel and peanuts.
Will I buy it again?
No. This was a serious failure to make a competitor to one of the most popular candy bars of all time.
The nougat in a snickers is peanut (butter?) nougat. So it's true that the difference between Milky Way and Snickers is peanuts, they're an integral component - not merely ornament. But I can't remember whether the nougat in a Boffo bar is peanut-flavored or plain. So that may account for the superiority of Snickers.
