I had never heard of Chimay cheese, so I was pleased at the chance to add another variety to my experience.
I wish I hadn't. I found it deeply unpleasant, due to a strong bitter flavor throughout. When I Googled it to try to figure out what was causing the bitterness, I learned that it's washed in beer, and I was likely tasting hops and malt.
Will I buy it again?
Ugh, no. I've never tasted a more bitter cheese than this, and I hated it.
I just tasted it and it's horrible!! SO BITTER! I am worried it's gone off and will make me sick! I do hope it's just the beer wash, but I only ate middle and not rind. Did you get ill from it? I hope not!
ReplyDeleteYes! This was not good and I like stinky cheese. It was ok spread thin on a baguette, you definitely don't want to eat a chunk straight. Glad I got a small piece.
